Statement on Senate Confirmation of Betsy DeVos as U.S. Secretary of Education

Education Post Executive Director and former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education Peter Cunningham, on today’s Senate confirmation of new U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos:

“The new administration holds some promise for extending the power of school choice to all families, and we’re hopeful that the strong concerns raised during the confirmation process have shown the need for choice to be balanced by strong accountability—particularly for low-income communities, English-language learners and children with disabilities—and vigilance on civil rights issues. That is essential to closing achievement gaps and ensuring that all kids have a clear path to success.”
